La culture, c'est comme la confiture...

(english text follows)

Mouais...)

The Var is not a cultural destination per se, but if you're interested in arts, there are a few places that shouldn't be missed! For one, the Villa Noailles.
You probably already know that I'm a fan and visit on a regular basis, but exhibitions come and go and always uncover great artists. The original part of the house has just been remodeled, gone -almost- are the moldy walls!
A brand new and long awaited permanent exhibition tells us all about the construction of the villa and the exciting life led by its owners Charles and Marie-Laure de Noailles. The "Design Parade" Festival, highlights young designer's works until the 26th of September.

Another must-see for you art fanatics out there: the Maison de la Photographie. A good occasion to stroll the ever in-construction town center of Toulon, with its derelict streets, and full of charm old signs (some shops closed long ago, still display their last collection... from the 70's).
This month, René & Radka take the spotlight. Dreamy atmosphere, inhabited by children and items right out of fairytales and fantastic iconography... An eerie exhibition, almost ruined by a terrible lighting (the museum used to display figurines, and the lights were never adapted to the new purpose of the place. Lack of money, as they told us...)

  2. Is that a picture of black cat? reminds me of my cat, Baxter - when he's thinner :P

You know, Baltimore is full of "derelict streets" and old time charms :P

  3. It's an ink drawing, seemingly just a small black spot on a big white sheet of paper, but when you look closer...

Yes, in a sense, Baltimore and Toulon are very much alike. Also made me think of Marseille (B thought so too), with an industrial port struggling to keep up its activities...
